Abstract
Along with its political implications, energy, a fundamental basis for social and economic development, is one of the major macroeconomic factors. Policy makers need to understand the relationship among growth and energy consumption in order to design effective energy and environmental policies. In this study, relationship between growth and energy consumption in Turkey is examined using data from the period 1960-2015. In this context; the presence of cointegration relation between the series is investigated by the cointegration test proposed by Bayer and Hanck (2012). The results show that there is no long-run relationship between growth and energy consumption in Turkey. The causality relation between the series is investigated by the bootstrap causality test proposed by Hacker and Hatemi-J (2006). The causality test results show that there is no causality between growth and energy consumption. These results support the validity of the neutrality hypothesis in Turkey.
