Abstract

Thymoma is the most common tumor of the anterior mediastinum. Invasive thymoma is a rare cause of superior vena cava syndrome. A 38 years-old male patient admitted with the symptoms and signs of superior vena cava syndrome. Thorax computerized tomography of the patient showed a mass in the anterior mediastinum. A transthoracic fine needle aspiration biopsy of the mass revealed thymoma. The mass was almost totally excised with a median sternotomy. The patient who was given postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy is still followed-up without signs of superior vena cava syndrome 19 months after surgery.
