Abstract

Material requirements planning, which is a method schedule and control technique, is used to minimise stock expenditure, to increase production and efficiency and to improve customer services. The objective of material requirement planning is to obtain the right part at the required time, at the right place and the quantities required for all parts. In this study, the material requirements planning system has been designed for the firm that produces roller mills. At the firm, a complete product structure consists of 13 subassemblies at level 1 and other levels are also made up of different subassemblies. At last level there are a large number of raw material and other components. Therefore a material coding system has been developed. This code structure consists of eight code fields. From the production planning process the master production schedule has been developed. Material requirements have been obtained in accordance with the master production schedule. These quantities of components and materials have been compared with stocks and order requirements have been determined. At the next step a gross material requirements plan has been constructed and drawn up a production schedule.
