Abstract

For a long time the revolt of the Morea caused trouble for the Ottoman Empire. States such as Britain and Russia involved the problem in favor of the Greeks. In 1827, France also joined the treaty between Russia and England, which was envisaging grant an autonomy to the Greeks. This three states destroyed the Ottoman fleet in Navarin to force the Ottoman Empire to adopt the protocol they prepared. The events that followed led to an Ottoman-Russian war. The Russian army stepped into action and on the eastern front they captured many places, including Kars. First time ever Erzurum faced with Russian invasion. On 14 September 1829 with the Treaty of Edirne, the Russians vacated the places they occupied except in some places. After this war, the Russians migrated many Armenians from Eastern Anatolia to Russia. This situation has had serious social and economic consequences for Erzurum.
