Evaluation of the Carrying Capacity of Local People in a Favourite Touristic Destination: An Example of Eskişehir

Özet

Çalışmada, Eskişehir’de giderek artan turizm hareketlerinin Eskişehir’e gelen ziyaretçiler ve yerel halk kapsamında taşıma kapasitesi bağlamında değerlendirilmesi ve bu sonuçlarla beraber Eskişehir’de sürdürülebilir turizmin sağlanması için çözüm önerileri geliştirmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın evreni Eskişehir’e gelen ziyaretçiler ve Eskişehir’de yaşayan yerel halk oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada yerel halkın toplumsal taşıma kapasitesine yönelik tutumlarını ve ziyaretçilerin psikolojik taşıma kapasitelerini ölçen iki farklı anket kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında elde edilen bulgularda, Eskişehir’in sosyal taşıma kapasitesinin aşılmadığı, yerel halkın turizmin gelişmesiyle beraber olumlu düşünceler içinde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, psikolojik taşıma kapasitesinin de aşılmadığı ve ziyaretçilerin turizmin gelişmesi ve kalabalığa ilişkin olumsuz düşüncede olmadıkları anlaşılmaktadır. Ulaşılan sonuçların Eskişehir turizminin sürdürülebilir plan ve politikaların oluşturulmasında olumlu bir katkı sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to increase the tourism in Eskişehir and to evaluate the present tourism activities under the term of carrying capacity in the eyes of local people and to develop possible solutions a better sustainable tourism perspective in Eskişehir. The universe of the study is the people who live in Eskişehir and the tourists visiting the city. Two different questionnaires were used in the study to measure the attitudes of the local people towards the social carrying capacity and the psychological carrying capacity. It was found out that the social carrying capacity of the people in Eskişehir was not exceeded yet and the local people were in favour of further development in tourism in the city. It was also found out that the psychological carrying capacity has not been exceeded and there was no negative thinking about the development of tourism and the crowd that tourism has caused in the city. It is thought that the results of this study will positively contribute to the sustainable planning and policies of the tourism in Eskişehir.
