Abstract

The poet of our National Anthem, Mehmet Akif Ersoy, is one of our rare poets who sees the problems of the period in which he lived with all details and reflects what he saw in his poems. When Mehmet Akif's world of poetry that constitutes Safahat is penetrated as a whole, it is observed that he reflects many social problems of the period, from poverty to child labor, from divorce to alcohol addiction, and that he wrote his poems to draw attention to these problems. The aim of this study is to evaluate social problems such as poverty, divorce, alcohol addiction, which are among the leading social problems today, from Akif's perspective, together with their causes and consequences. In this direction, the poetic works of Mehmet Akif named “Küfe”, “Meyhane”, “Mahalle Kahvesi” and “Köse İmam” which were determined to be directly related to the subject of the study in Safahat, were examined and analyzed.
