Abstract
Identifying the macroeconomic factors affecting income inequality and establishing an appropriate income distribution policy are among the topics discussed from past to present. Kuznets' claim that the relationship between income inequality and economic growth follows a "reverse-U" pattern in 1955 has been tested in many studies. This study, known as the Kuznets hypothesis, has led to research into the determinants of income inequality. Inflation is considered to be one of these determinants, and the examination of the relationship between income inequality and inflation occupies an important place in the literature on the subject. It is accepted that inflation often reduces the purchasing power of lower income groups or redistributes income from lower income groups to upper income groups in financial markets. However, it should be thought that it is possible to encounter different results depending on therate of increase in inflation, the threshold value of income, the period range examined, the country group and the level of development of the countries. Based on this information, the aim of this study is to first test the existence of the relationship between income inequality and inflation in countries with different levels of development, to determine the direction and sign of such a relationship in the presence of it, and to determine the channels through which inflation redistributes income. In this context, heterogeneous panel data analysis was performed with data from 58 countries and the years 1991-2018, and according to the findings, it was determined that the effect of inflation rate on income inequality in developing countries was negative and significant
