Abstract

The aim of this study, which is a quantitative study designed in the descriptive survey and causal-comparative model, is to examine the innovation management competencies of school principals according to teacher perceptions. The study group consists of 143 teachers in primary and secondary schools in Ankara during the 2019-2020 academic year, who accepted to participate in the study voluntarily. The teachers who participated in the study were selected with a maximum diversity sampling method which is one of the purposive sampling methods. The data of the study was obtained by using “Innovation Management at Schools Scale”, which was developed by Bülbül (2012b) and consists of 32 items and four sub-dimensions. In this study, analyses were done in order to determine the differences in terms of frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, and variables. In this context, an independent group t-test was used for groups of two, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for groups composed of more than two members. In the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), the LSD multiple comparison tests were applied to determine which groups had significant differences. In addition to the statistical significance of thedifference between averages, the effect size was also investigated. In independent groups t-test, the effect size was calculated according to Cohen’s d effect size; In the one-way analysis of variance, the effect size was calculated according to the eta squared effect size. According to the results of the study, the innovation management competencies of school administrators were found to be “moderate” on the whole scale and in all sub-dimensions. Teachers' perceptions of school administrators regarding their innovation management competencies show significant differences in terms of “working in primary or secondary school, gender, branch, age, and professional seniority”.According to the results of the research, various suggestions were made to the practitioners and researchers.
