Abstract

We performed three-phased bone scintigraphy for evaluation of five pa¬tients with anterior open bite abnormality, who underwent maxillary os¬teotomy operation accompanied by autologous iliac corticocancellous graft transfer prepared from iliac periosteum. No changes were observed in blood flow and blood pool phase images; however, metabolic phase parallel and pinhole images showed increased focal activity suggesting normal vascular-ization. These findings show that scintigraphy is a readily available and suc¬cessful method in monitoring the viability of autologous free bone grafts used in patients undergoing anterior segmental maxillary osteotomy for an¬terior open bite correction.
