Abstract

Aim: This study was planned to investigate the effect of healthy lifestyle behaviors and physical activity levels on obesity status and BMI score of women registered in a sports center. Method: The descriptive research was conducted with a total of 114 women who are registered to a sports center. The population of the study consisted of 167 females enrolled in the center. In the research, 114 women who came to the sports center at least once a week and accepted to participate in the study were included in the study. In collecting the data, Information Form of Descriptive Characteristics Regarding Women, Information Form of Risk Factors Related to Obesity, Healthy Life Style Behavior Scale II (HLBS II) and International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ-Short) was used. Findings: In the study, HLBS II sub-dimension and total score values were found higher in women with normal weight compared to overweight and obese women (p<0,05). It was determined that BMI (Body Mass Index), the independent variable in the regression model, negatively predicts the 30,4% of the total score of HLBS II (p<0,001). Result: It was concluded that BMI has an effect on the total score of HLBS II. Education and consulting service planning towards overweight and obese women to better their healthy life style behaviors can be suggested to individuals who provide health services.
