Abstract

AIM: This study was planned as a descriptive study in order to investigate the professional values of nurse managers and the factors affecting them. METHODS: This descriptive study was carried out with 216 nurse managers working in nine hospitals in a city. The data were collected between October 2012 and January 2013 by using a Personal Information Form and Nursing Professional Values Scale (NPVS). The analysis of the data was performed by using descriptive statistical, correlation and regression analysis methods in SPSS 20.0.RESULTS: It was reported that 94.4% of the participants were female, 56.0% of them were aged between 31-40 years, 57.4% had a university degree, 75.9% were married, 56.9% were working in a public hospital and 85.6% were supervisor nurses. It was also noted that 44% of these participants had a professional experience of 11-20 years on average and 86.6% of all participants had management experience of less than 11 years. NPVS total score of nurse managers was found as 4.10±18.8. It is determined that there was a positive correlation between professional values of nurse managers' and their educational level (p<0.05).CONCLUSION: It was determined that professional values had been perceived to be highly important by nurse managers. Furthermore, it was found that the more the educational level of nurse managers increases, the more their professional values goes up.
