Abstract
One of the important metals in our daily life is copper from the prehistorical ages to now. In the 16 th, 17 th and 18 th centuries' documents of Ottoman archives Erzurum copper workshops and the production made in these workshops have been mentioned and also it has been seen that this forms an important art, vocation and industry branch. Many copper objects such as copper kettle, plunger, ewer, plate, tray, saucer, water pot, and bowl produced in the workshops of coppersmiths' bazaar in the past show a rich variety as regards their specific ornaments and peculiar shapes. Today in Erzurum just 14 shaps try to cany on this vocation in difficulty. This vocation has lost its importance as a result of rapid urbanization, social and cultural changes, econamic reasons, technological innovations, especially the use of steel, aliminium, zinc, glass and plastic in the production of kitchen utensils.
