Abstract

In various parts of Anatolia, the traditional clothes with very different types are In a different version in Bitlis. Gej textile particularly used in male clothes Is made of a fabric which Is wowen with threads of goat hair by people living in the region. Male clothes can be examined in three categories: Head, body and foot. Once kofl (fez) was worn on the head. However, a sarık (cover) or pusu (pushu) which Is called an egaj is being used nowadays. These covers are used In three different ways by covering around the head wrapping around the neck like a şal (shawl) or wrapping on the shoulder in the shape of a sal (shawl). There are clothes such as iç gömleği, şal (shawl), şalvar (shalvar) and sapik (short jacket) that are worn on the body. İç donu is worn under the pants. Wool sacks with kilim figured and hank, traditional shoes are worn on the feet. A sash is wrapped up round the waist. When it comes to female clothes, the difference of covering the head is noticable. Colourful pushues are wrapped up round the muslin. Sometimes hats, res-shaped named khofi are worn under the muslin. İç gömleği (chemise) is worn on the body and over on the fistan (dress) lying throughout is worn. Fistans (dresses) are often made of velvet fabric. Shal kushak and yelek are worn on It. One-coloured or figured shalvars are worn on at the lower parts of the body. The figured socks, harik or çarik are worn on the feet.
