Abstract

Göktürk Period is of greatimportance in Turkish history as a period because the word "Turk" was first used in this period. Clothes of Göktürk Period reflect the traditions of that period with their char-acterictics. No cloth has came down today from Göktürk Period. We come to learn features of the clothes of that period mainly from statues and wall pictures. The most important statues are in Bilge Kagan and Kül Tigin Comlex of buildings. Wall pictures, on the other hand, are in Kumtura, Pencikent, Balalik-Hill Palace and Afrasyab Palace. According to those figurative descriptions, we come to learn that clothes of Göktürk Period generally consist of long kaftans. Kaftans, which are generally as long as down to the knees, are closed by a belt at the waist. Among other parts which complete Göktürk clothes are trousers, long boots, belts and headdresses known as börk
