Abstract
In this study, an analysis based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics, considering different environmental conditions and loads, are performed for a natural gas fired combined cycle power plant. The variations of the performance parameters and their magnitudes are studied. The useful power, reversible power and irreversibility are obtained for each component which constitutes the plant, and overall efficiencies of the plant are also calculated. With a rise of 42 °C in the environmental temperature, the overall first and the second law efficiencies of the plant decreases about 4% and 5% , respectively. By the increase of environmental temperature from 0°C to about 42°C, the results indicated that both the reversible work and power output of the system decrease about 22%, whereas specific fuel consumption increases about 8%. However, specific fuel consumption decreases with increasing load, 100% load situations results 12% reduction compare to the 50% load situation.
