Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a model to calculate the poner obtained experimentally from a gasoline engine produced by Fiat-Tofaş in Turkey (Kartal 1.6 i. e.). A computer program was developed based on the model to perform cycle analysis. Using the computer program, the most proper combination of air-fuel mixture, ignition timings, and combustion periods was sought amongst various excess air ratio, ignition times, and combustion periods. The engine generates 58.9 kWat 5500 rpm, according to the manufacturer. Using the model developed in this study, 59.3 kW was calculated at 5500 rpm of the crankshaft for air-fuel mixture of 1.05, ignition timing ot 27° before head dead center, and combustion duration of 39°. It was concluded that the model enables to calculate the power that could be delivered by the gasoline engine within an error less than ±%1. The temperatures and pressures were calculated through energy eouations tor compression, combustion, and expansion periods for each degree of crankshaft. The calculated peak temperature and pressure were 2077 °K, and 6800 kPa, respectively for the operating conditions that provided the specified power level.
