Abstract

Series of horst and graben features represent the wide spread tectonic activity of Aegean region. As the result, many thermal springs are existed at this area. Pamukkale thermal springs with an average annual temperature of 35-36 °C formed the largest white-snow travertine area which represents the most important nature beauty in the world. Pamukkale thermal springs discharge with an average of 381.8 l/s, Ca content of 23meq/l and dissolved CO2 of 400 mg/1. Karahayit spring which represents an other thermal water outlet in this region, discharge with an average temperature of 57 °C. Karahayit thermal waters have higher $O^{18}$ isotope content than Pamukkale springs. As the results of isotopic analyses, the relationship between $\delta^{18}O$ and elevation showed that the $\delta^{18}O$ rich has value of $\permill$ 0.31 for each 100m. Hydrogeological investigations showed that the groundwater have three different flow systems in the . These systems are: (1) shallow cold water flow with short residence time; (2) Pamukkale thermal waters with longer residence time; and (3) Karahayit thermal waters with deeper flow path and longer travel time.
