Abstract

Interdisciplinary approach which is used in historical studies, undoubtedly provides an universe of possibilities that allows scholar to understand the worldview of the related period profoundly and holistically. However, the Ottoman historical sources, like poems, epics and hymns do not attract scholars' attentions adequately -even, they were given place in a major chronicle. Therefore, the Ottoman chronicles, are generally studied in the context of prose in them. Whereas, the poems and other literary elements in the Ottoman chronicles, could tell so much about historiography, worldview and different historical issues. Presumably, there is no Medieval Islam and Ottoman resource which has not got a verse in. In this context, ÂûÖkpaûazâde Târihi, which is the one of the first known Ottoman chronicles contain a lot of verses -like other Ottoman written resources. We examined the verses -beside the prose- which in ÂûÖkpaûazâde's chronicle with the seeking eyes for the Ottoman sovereignty discourse and terminology. The periods which we examined are the rule of Osmân and Orhân Gâzi's. Every term which we detected, was tried to understand in its historical context. Besides this, to realize the importance of the terms, we use quantitative content analysis method. Eventually, we reach interesting historical datum about the issue.
