Abstract
Objective: The role of lipid peroxidation in ischemic heart diseases, such as acute myocardial infarction, stable angina pectoris, unstable angina pectoris and silent ischemia is known. In this study we aimed to determine the role of erythrocyte and plasma lipid peroxidation in stable angina pectoris (SAP) and unstable angina pectoris (USAP). Material and Method: We studied 54 coronary artery disease patient, 28 of them were SAP and 26 of them were USAP. For control group we choosed 20 patients who have no coronary artery disease, peripheric artery disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity and smoking history. Plasma glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, malondialdehyde (MDA lipoprotein (a levels were determined in the study and control groups. Results: Erythrocyte and plasma malondialdehyde levels were significantly higher in SAP and USAP groups than control groups (p<0.05). But there was no significant difference between SAP and USAP groups (p>0.05) Conclusion: Erythrocyte and plasma malondialdehyde levels increase as a result of lipid peroxidation in SAP and USAP.
