Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To review the triplet pregnancies which are in the high risk group of pregnancies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirteen cases of triplet pregnancies delivered between June 1,1994 and June 1, 1997 were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS: The ratio of the triplet pregnancies to all pregnancies was 0,029 % (13/44200) and the ratio of triplets to multiple pregnancies was 2,7 % (13/471). Delivery was vaginal with spontaneous labor in 5 cases . In 7 cases cesarean sections were performed. In one case the first fetus was delivered vaginally and the second and third fetuses were delivered by cesarean sections because of situs transversus. Twenty two (56%) infants were male and 17 (44%) were female. One infant was death in utero. No fetal anomalies were observed. Eleven of the live births had an Apgar scores equal or less than 7 for the first minute and there were no correlation of this low Apgar scores with the labor type(p>0,05). The perinatal mortality rate was 10,2%. CONCLUSIONS: Triplet Pregnancies as multiple pregnancies carry high risk for maternal and fetal health both antepartum and intrapartum period.
