Abstract
Objective: Screening of congenital anomalies not only estimates the incidence of anomalies but also guides in the determining of the causative factors. Material and Method: In this study, prevalence of the congenital anomalies was estimated using data obtained from screening of 2785 school-age children. Schools were chosen randomly in such way that every socio-economical class were presented in the study. Results: 14 types of congenital anomalies were detected, with prevalence rates: Accessory nipple 31.9/1000, pectus carinatum 10.4/1000, pectus excavatum 1.7/1000, cylinodactyly 25.1/1000, syndactyly 3.9/1000, polydactyly 7/1000, hemangioma 2.1/1000, melanocytic nevus 38.7/1000, malocclusion 41.2/1000, prominent ear 14.7/1000, epicanthal fold 6.4/1000, microtia 0.7/1000, hypospadias 5/1000. Conclusion: The prevalence rate of some congenital anomalies in our study was higher when compared with those reported in the literature.
