Özet

Bu çalışmada sınıf öğretmeni adaylarının empati kavramı hakkındaki görüşlerini belirlemek ve Hayat Bilgisi dersine yönelik geliştirdikleri empati temelli etkinlikleri incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılan çalışmada, Sınıf Öğretmenliği Anabilim Dalı 3. ve 4. sınıf öğretmen adaylarından oluşan toplam 46 kişi belirlenmiştir. Öğretmen adaylarına empati kavramı ve Hayat Bilgisi derslerinde empatinin önemi hakkındaki görüşlerini belirlemeye yönelik sorulardan oluşan açık uçlu anket uygulanmış ve görüşme yapılmıştır. Ayrıca İlkokul 3. sınıf Hayat Bilgisi ders kitabında bulunan konulardan empatik etkinliklere yer verilmiş olanlar tespit edilmiş, ardından öğretmen adaylarının bu konuların kazanımlarıyla ilgili olarak alternatif etkinlikler geliştirmeleri istenmiştir. Elde edilen veriler, içerik analiziyle analiz edilmiştir. Bunlar doğrultusunda öğretmen adaylarının genel olarak empatiyi önemsedikleri, Hayat Bilgisi başta olarak diğer derslerde de kullanılmasının önemli olduğunu düşündükleri görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğretmen adaylarının geliştirdikleri etkinliklerde örnek olay incelemesi, drama, resim çizme, altı şapkalı düşünme, mektup ve günlük yazma gibi yöntemler kullandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Öğretmen adayları oluşturdukları empati temelli etkinliklerin Hayat Bilgisi dersinde öğrencilerin aktif olmaları için oldukça önemli olduğunu düşünmektedirler.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify preservice classroom teachers’ opinions on empathy and the empathy-based activities developed by them for Life Studies course. In the study using the qualitative research method, 46 preservice classroom teachers who were studying in the third and fourth grade of Department of Classroom Teaching. The preservice teachers were subjected to an open-ended questionnaire asking questions about their opinions on the concept of empathy and importance of empathy in Life Studies courses and an interview. Moreover, the subjects which include empathic activities in the Primary School 3rd-Grade Life Studies course book were identified, and the preservice teachers were asked to develop alternative activities regarding the attainments of these subjects. It was seen according to the obtained data that the preservice teachers generally cared about empathy and thought that it is important to use it in other courses, too. Moreover, it was observed that the preservice teachers used methods such as case study, drama/impersonation, drawing pictures, six hats thinking, writing letters and diaries to develop activities about the matter. The preservice teachers think that the empathy-based activities they developed are quite important for students to be active in the Life Studies course.
