Abstract
It may be said that justice, one of the issues that humankind have been preoccupied with, has been debated throughout the history of philosophy. Plato was a philosopher who based justice on life rather than politics, ethics or law. He identified a peaceful life with a just life. According to him, such a life is only attained through a philosophical living. In Plato’s opinion, justice is manifested in a city (polis) where individuals perform their duties properly and never meddle with others’ affairs. A just city is guaranteed by a philosopher king who rules it making decisions which ensure that people do their jobs thoroughly. Thus, in a just city, justice manifests itself in the philosopher king’s persona. This study strives to introduce the link between Plato’s concept of justice and a philosophical life, and to indicate that as a man who naturally established justice the philosopher king guarantees the justness of the city.
