Ortaya Çıkan Modelleme Yaklaşımıyla Kavramlaştırma Süreci: Sembolleştirme Örneği

Özet
Bu çalışmada üçüncü sınıf öğrencisinin ortaya çıkan modelleme yaklaşımı ile matematiksel sembolleri kullanma süreci ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanmıştır. Ön uygulama yapılmış, adından belirli amaca göre üçüncü sınıf öğrencisi katılımcı olarak seçilmiştir. Araştırma fenemolojik durum çalışması niteliğindedir. Uygulanan etkinlikler bir öğrenci ile dört ay aralıkla uygulanan model oluşturma ve model adaptasyon etkinliklerinden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama araçları modelleme sürecinde alınan ses kayıtlarından ve dokümanlardan, araştırmacı gözlem notlarından, öğrenci ve öğrenci velisiyle yapılan görüşmenin ses kaydından ve dokümanlardan oluşmaktadır. Öğrencinin matematiksel modelleme sürecindeki performansı ele alındığında bireyin deneyimi nedir? sorusuna cevap aranmıştır ve ortaya çıkan modelleme perspektifinde ele alınan ‘model of’ ve ‘model for’ döngüsü içinde yorumlanmıştır. Yapılan analizler sonucunda model oluşturma ve model adaptasyon etkinliklerinde öğrencinin standart ve standart olmayan ölçüm birimleri ile yaptığı ölçümler sonunda gruplamalar oluşturduğu ve bu gruplandırmaların öğrenciyi parantez kullanmaya yönelttiğini göstermektedir. Çalışmada öğrencinin standart ve standart olmayan ölçme birimlerini kullanması ve bunu diğer matematiksel kavramlarla ilişkilendirilmesi sosyokültürel perspektifle açıklanmıştır.
Abstract
The objective of this study is to examine the student’s process of using mathematical sembols with the emergent modelling perspective. A preliminary study was carried out, then a third grade student was chosen as a participant pursposively. The study is a fenomologic case study. Model eliciting and model adaptation activity conducted two times consequetivey within four months. Data collection tools were audio recordings and student’s study notes during modelling process, student’s and parent’s interview records and researcher’s observation notes. The question “what is the individual`s experiment?” aimed for seeking an answer considering a student`s performance in modelling process. Findings were interpreted in the circle of “model of” and “ model for” process with the emergent modelling perspective. The results obtained showed that through the findings of the student`s measurements with standarts and nonstandarts measures, the groups were formed by the participant and this formation led using the sembol of paranthesis. In this research using standart and nonstandart measures and the related finding with other mathematics concepts were interpreted in sociocultural perspective.
