Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Evaluation of perinatal mortality and morbiditiy in hypertensive pregnancies STUDY DESIGN: In our clinic, 249 patients were examined, retrospectively, as gestational hypertension from 6520 patients who had given birth to baby between January 1995 and December 1996. RESULTS: Since our cases were evaluated in the view of perinatal mortality, 39 (18%) cases whose pregnacies resulted before 28 weeks of gestation, were omited from the study. The perinatal mortality was seen in 10 patients between 28-32 gestational weeks. In 87 (41 %) patients between 33-37 gestational weeks, 17 perinatal mortality was seen. In 84 (40 %) patients above 38 gestational weeks, 10 perinatal deaths were seen. Mean birth weight was 2761±632g. The correlation between birth weight and perinatal mortality it was evaluated. There were 15 cases with the thrombocyte count below 100.000 / mm3. 9 of these were Considered as HELLP syndrome. In all of the cases the perinatal mortality rate was 176 %. There was no maternal death. CONCLUSION: Perinatal mortality rate is very high in pregnancy induced hypertension in our country. We hope that, this rate can be decreased by proper antenatal follow up protocols and by early detection of preeclampsia. (Gynecology Obstet Reprod Med 1997; 3:413-417)
