Abstract
Purpose: To Determination determine of whether there is an effect of age- related cataract has an effect on central corneal thickness (CCT). Materials and Methods: This study included 24 patients whose in whom one eye’s best corrected visual acuity was decreased under 0.5 as a result of the age- related cataract; and the other eye was healthy and had 1.0 visual acuity. The healthy eyes of patients were taken ascomprised the control group. CCT and intra-ocular pressure (IOP) were measured by ultrasonic pachymeter and Goldmann applanation tonometer under topical anesthesia. Results: The mean CCT did not difference significantly between the study and control groups was not significant, although it was higher in the study group (546.54±36.55 μm, 543.46±36.08 μm, respectively), and there was no significant difference according to the IOP in the groups, eitheras well (16.54±3.88 mmHg, 17.00±3.05 mmHg, respectively). Conclusions: This is the first report concerning the effect of age- related cataract on CCT, and. it It is did not different in between eyes with the age- related cataract from theand normal ones. Nonetheless, large group studies are needed in on this subject.
