Abstract
This study aims to examine students’ perspectives about universal values that teachers have with the help of scenarios. The sample of this study is composed of students from two public schools from an urban (N=266) and a rural area (N=48) of Ankara. In the study, a questionnaire including scenarios and choices related to the scenarios was used to get the opinions of the students. Scenarios were based on the values in six pillars of character, namely trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, citizenship. When the findings were examined, it was revealed that the most of the students in both urban and rural schools thought that teachers will show ‘helpfulness’ behavior which was sub-dimension of the ‘caring’ value. Another interesting result of the study was that compared to the other universal values, less students in both cohorts schools thought that teachers will show ‘tolerance’ behavior which was subdimension of the ‘respectfulness’ value.
