Abstract

From the early periods on, the struggle for domination between the West and the East has been carried on through conflicts and otherization. While shaping their culture and understanding, the West self-centeredly alienates the others, based on a colonialist logic inherited from history and formed partly by beliefs. The colonial West creates this behavior by characterizing the other with negative judgments and evaluations based on the psychology of superiority and difference rather than the values of its religious beliefs because it placed its own difference and superiority at the foundation of its existence. In this study, we will examine and evaluate the role of the viewpoints of Jewish and Christian scriptures on the other in the formation of Western perception of the other.
