Abstract
Cryptosporidiosis is a common disease among animal-care people, tourists and immune-suppressed persons; nevertheless it may also be seen among people who do not have any immune system problem. Especially, children are much prone to this disease than adults. We have encountered such a case, a six years old boy complaining severe vomiting and watery diarrhea without mucous for a week. After history taking and physical examination, laboratory investigations were performed. The stool sample of the case was examined bacteriologically and parasitologically via microscope and culturing techniques. As parasitological examination for the intestinal parasites, native-Lugol staining, trichrome staining, Kinyoun-acid fast staining methods as well as microscopic assessment was done. In the end of the investigation Cryptosporidium sp infection was found. This case emphasizes that Cryptosporidium sp. infection may also be found among children who are immunologically normal, and this sort of infection should be remembered whenever there is a case with severe diarrhea resulting in dehydratation.
