Özet

Kara Derya nehrinin sağ yakasındaki tepelerde Orta Asya'nın en eski şehirlerinden Özkent (Özgön) şehri yer almıştır. Semanî'nin Türk şehirlerinden diye zikrettiği Özkent'in tarihi iki binden fazla yılı içermektedir.

The history of Ozkent, which is regarded as one of the Turkish cities by Semanî, covers a period of more than two thousand years. According to Islamic authors, Ozkent was a prosperous and fortified city. Ozkent was a trade center located on the gates of nomadic Turks. They visited the city for commercial purposes. The commercial relations of Fergana cities and China and East Turkestan were carried out via Silkroad which also included Ozkent. Various types of skillfully produced goods of artisans of Fergana were exported to the eastern lands through Osh-Ozkent-East Turkestan route. During the Karakhanid period, Ozkent lived through its heyday in terms of prosperity. Undoubtedly, the greatest contribution of medieval Ozkent to the Turkish history of scholarship and culture was Kazihan al-Hasan el-Uzcandi el-Ferganî, one of the most prominent jurists of Turkish world. This fact further showed that Ozkent was one of the centers of scholarship, culture and education
