Abstract

Diffuse Idiopathic Skeletal Hyperostosis (Forestier's Disease) is characterized by the formation extensive spinal osteophytes due to enchondral ossification of the paravertebral ligaments and muscles. Dysphagia resulting from mechanical obstruction is a symptom in the course of the disease. When dysphagia occurs, it follows a progressive clinical course. The treatment of choice is conservative in the early period and surgical excision of the osteophyte in the late symptomatic period. In this article, we present a case of Forestier's disease who had osteophytes in the C3-5 level narrowing the pharyngeal lumen. The patient's osteophytes were excised surgically by transcervical route and dysphagia has disappeared.
