Abstract

The debate about the soul, which is accepted as the cause and principle of the human body, is as old as human history. The main issue connected with the soul is the death and the life of the hereafter. Though all people accept death, it is not possible to say the same thing for the life of hereafter. In general, death is considered to be the separation of the soul from the body. In the history of thought, philosophers have argued that the soul is immortal or mortal like the body. Therefore, the debate about whether the soul is mortal or immortal is very important for the life of the hereafter. In this article, the views on the immortality of the soul and the life of the hereafter of John Locke, one of the most important thinkers who prepare the ground for the Enlightenment, will be explored and evaluated
