Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the values of the 225 children's book, which the teachers in the public pre-schools in TRNC prefer to read during the activities, within the scope of the hidden curriculum. Content analysis was conducted in the study, and the results point to important findings with regard to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus case. Values such as happiness, sensitivity, friendship, love, and social norms and rules that are frequently encountered in the literature are also frequently encountered in children's books preferred by teachers in the TRNC. However, the values of peace, respect, freedom, harmony, self- criticism, and patriotism are not given to children through children's books in the context of hidden curriculum. When these findings assessed in the context of the TRNC, particularly in the political and economic situation of Northern Cyprus, it is a very thought-provoking finding in terms of the values of the future generation of the TRNC.
