Abstract
The Etrüsk Mountain is located in the northeast of Van Lake in Eastern Anatolia. The Etrüsk Mountain is of Pliocene age and stratovolcano type. Etrüsk Volcano Mountain is on a southwest-northeast trending linear line formed by Nemrut, Süphan, Tendürek and Ağrı Volcano Mountains. This study aims to determine the morphological evolution of Etrüsk Stratovolcano and the factors effecting this morphological evolution. For this purpose, geology and tophography maps, Google Earth images and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were use in the various scales. Field observation were supported by visual and compared with digital media data. The results obtained were compared with the related literatüre and the development of geomorphology was revealed. The Etrüsk Volcano is one of the important geomorphological units associated with the compression of the Arabian Plate on the Anatolian Peninsula in the Eastern Anatolian Region. The highest point of the Etrüsk Mountain is the Kavşabulak Hill with 2943 m. The Etrüsk Volcano, with its central eruption character, formed a large caldera with a diameter of about 9 km. With the volcanic eruptions, the southern wall of the caldera was disintegrated and later was formed by the introduction of fluvial processes and was opened to the external drainage (Lake Van). The caldera of Etrüsk is a typical collapse caldera. The presence of Barancos and Planez, the typical morphological units of stratovolcanoes, are the main indicators that prove that the Etrüsk Volcano is Stratovolcano. The study area, which has its own characteristic features in geological and geomorphological terms, has a topography characteristic formed by different processes.
