Abstract

The fact that Greek Cypriot and Greek efforts to hellenize the island of Cyprus in1950’s were not accepted by the UN, that the plebicit carried out then was given no fertileresult direct Greece so as to establish a terrorist organization named EOKA an deven thefoundation of the Republic of Cyprus cannot stop Greece and the Greek Cypriots living onthe island from the utopic idea of Enosis. The constitution of the Republic of Cyprus acceptsthe Maronites, Armenians, and the Gurbets as the minorities. Especially after the 1963 conflictand the chaotic atmosphere, almost all the minorities including the Maronites, and Armeniansstart leaving the island. No Armenian is living in the northern part of the island todayexcept some Maronites and Gurbets as well. This scientific study will focus on the historicalbackground of these above-mentioned minorities as well as the Gurbets on the island, and thegeneral situation of these societies, especially living in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
