Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the factors, which affect physical education and primary school teachers’ passion for learning towards physical education courses with respect to a set of diverse variables. The study was geared towards physical education and primary school teachers, who work in public and private schools in Yozgat city center and districts that operate under the supervision of Provincial Directorate of National Education throughout 2017-2018 academic year, and applies to a total of 503 teachers. As the data collection tool, Attitude Scale of Factors That Affect Passion for Teaching, which was developed by Karaman (2009), and Demographic Information Form were employed. According to kurtosis and skewness of the data set, it was determined that the data was normally distributed and hence parametric tests were used. The Cronbach Alpha values of Attitude Scale of Factors That Affect Passion for Teaching were calculated as; 0.965 for “Process Motivation” sub-dimension, 0.920 for “Process Demotivation” sub-dimension, 0.920 for “InputOrganizational Structure” sub-dimension and 0.755 for “School System Properties” sub-dimension. While analyzing data, unpaired t test, one-way analysis of variance, frequency, analysis and chi-square test were utilized. According to the findings of the study, while physical education teachers stated that the factors affecting their passion for teaching need external support (support from management, equipment support, students’ motivation for learning), primary school teachers expressed that internal factors (love for children, working in a peaceful environment) have a positive effect on their passion for teaching. In addition, it was determined that there were statistically significant differences in age and gender variables.
