The Investigation of Power Relations in Higher Education Institutions in the Context of Field Theory

Özet

Araştırmanın amacı, yükseköğretim kurumlarındaki güç ilişkilerini, diğer bir ifadeyle tahakküm ve direniş stratejilerini oluşturan temel unsurları, bu ilişkilerin nasıl inşa edildiklerini, akademik alan ve akademisyenlerin bu ilişkilerden etkilenme biçimlerini ortaya koymak, aynı zamanda bu ilişkiler sonucu nasıl bir akademik alan kurulduğunu Alan Kuramı bağlamında incelemektir. Araştırma, fenomenolojik yaklaşıma göre yapılandırılmıştır. Çalışma grubunu 12 farklı üniversitede görev yapan 16 akademisyen oluşturmaktadır. İçerik analizi sonucunda; güç ilişkilerine temel oluşturan unsurlar, ortaya çıkma nedenleri, akademik alana etkisi olmak üzere üç temaya ve 14 kategoriye ulaşılmıştır. Güç ilişkilerinin akademisyenler ve akademisyenler dışında olmak üzere iki eksende gerçekleştiği, bu eksenlerin birbiriyle etkileşimi sonucu ortaya çıktığı, akademik alanın akademisyenleri pekiştirdiği ve akademisyenlerin de bu yapı içerisinde modellenerek alanı meşrulaştırdıkları söylenebilir

Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the basic elements of power relations, in other words domination and resistance strategies in higher education institutions and to investigate how they are created and the exposure forms of academicians and academic field and at the same time to examine in the context of Field Theory, what kind of academic field is built as the result of these relations. This research was structured based on phenomenological approach. The working group of this research consists of 16 academicians from 12 universities. According to the analysis of the research data, it has been reached those three themes such as basic elements of power relations, causes of power relations, and the impact of power relations on academic field and 14 categories of these themes. The power relations emerged in the academic field is actualized in two axes such as created by academicians and outside of academicians. It could be stated that power positions appears as a result of interactions between these two axes, academic field directs the academicians and the academicians too legitimate academic field within this structure
