Abstract
Background and Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the shapes and measurements of sella turcica in adolescent orthodontic patients with different vertical growth patterns.Materials and Methods: Lateral cephalometric radiographs of 96 individuals (32-low angle; 32-average angle; 32-high angle) were analyzed. The shape and linear measurements (diameter, depth and length) of sella turcica in different vertical growth patterns were determined. The data were analyzed using independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey honest significant difference (HSD) tests. Results: The length of sella turcica was not different between groups (p=0.230). The diameter of sella turcica in low and high angle individuals was larger than average angle individuals (p=0.004 and p=0.005, respectively). The depth of sella turcica in high angle individuals was larger than average angle individuals (p=0.024). Moreover, the results showed that sella turcica presented with a normal morphology in the majority of subjects (% 56).Conclusions: A significant difference was found in diameter and depth of sella turcica among different vertical growth patterns. Larger diameter and depth values were present in low and high angle individuals.
