Abstract
When it is assumed that gender is a construction process, it can be seen that many social areas can be used in the flow of daily life as a supportive proposition for the postulate of its reproduction. In this context, it is possible to include many subheadings such as social relations, social environment and belongingness in social gender debates as social reproduction and identity construction. In this study with reference to phenomena sex and gender, indicators such as colors, figures, shapes, symbols in baby / children's clothes and 40 photographs from current baby clothing stores have been selected and interviews have been conducted respectively with 4 couples and 6 parents with the support of photographs.Participants having babies between the ages of 0-5 have been preferred. 4 pairs at the same time and 6 pairs seperately have been asked to evaluate 40 visuals through 5 questions. The questions have been coded as “social relations” under the main heading “how gender is built in everyday life” and under the subheadings “social capital of the family” and “environmental factors”.In this context, the meanings attributed by the parents to the clothes have been associated with their equivalents in daily life by a tailor and a child development expert. The ultimate goal of the study is to address the issue of how stereotyped gender perceptions on children's clothing affect families.
