Özet
Orman ürünleri sanayi sektöründe nitelikli işgücünü oluşturan orman endüstri mühendisleri; eğitim alanlarını bazen bilinçli, bazen de istek dışı nedenlerle seçmek zorunda kalmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, orman ürünleri endüstrisinin talep ettiği orman endüstri mühendislerinin sahip olması beklenen temel niteliklerin neler olduğunun belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda sektör temsilcilerinin yani işletme sahiplerinin sektörde nasıl bir orman endüstri mühendisi istedikleri yapılan anket çalışması ile araştırılmıştır.
Abstract
Forest industry engineers, representing the qualified labor within the forest products industry, choose their field of study either deliberately or by chance. This study explores the main skill sets of forest industry engineers required by forest products industry. As representatives of forest industry owner of forest products companies were surveyed about their views on the qualifications a forest industry engineer must have.This study covered total 7111 companies registered to TOBB as a forest products company in Turkey. Sample size was calculated as 67 with 90% confidence level and 10% margin of error. We surveyed 67 different companies.Survey results revealed that employers find education received by forest industry engineering sufficient for the job. Employers suggested that the forest industry engineering curriculum be expanded with new elective courses offering skills on design and artwork, communication technique, public relations, marketing and machinery knowledge.Employers should provide a job environment in which engineers improve their information and skills and support newly hired engineers. Graduated forest industry engineers should keep their technical knowledge updated in order to gain experience readily in the field with special focus on the communication and foreign language skills.
