Abstract
In this study, the aim is to put forward history conception of Gilles Deleuze, one of the important philosophers of 20th century, in modernity and postmodernity notions. Understanding Deleuze, who used linguistics, anthropology, political philosophy and psychology while systematizing his thoughts, is important for understanding modern world. Deleuze questioned and deconstructed the subject, images, facts and several concepts that modern world indoctrinated us. He created a new conceptual world instead of explaining the modern world with modern concepts. Otherwise all of his comments on the modern world would have resulted in the birth of a thought system shaped by the modernity. That Deleuze handled the concepts differently than common means the collapse of the representation of modern world and the presented because Deleuze showed the fact that modern world and history cannot be explained through some metanarratives. Accordingly, there is not a standard subject (individual) nor a standard history or a society. To him, real history is the history that has been produced by desire. “Time and duration is not independent from the past. The present bears the past inside. The present is divided into the past and the future.” Deleuze objected the progressive understanding of history (or nature) that the enlightenment thought accepted as the holistic and definite fact. According to him, history and time is not a progressive period. In his point of view, “the event” puts history notion into a crisis. To him, there will be no past, future, present or even “history” in the future. He brought a new point of view to history with these thoughts
