Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the roles of personality traits, and hope in predicting career adapt-abilities among high school students. The study group consisted of 1,002 students (631 female, 371 male) attending different types of high schools in a district with a medium level of development in Istanbul during the second semester of the 2020–2021 academic year. The Career Adapt-Abilities Scale, the Big Five Inventory, the Hope Scale, and a Personal Information Form were used in this study. The research, conducted using a correlational research model, utilized independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and hierarchical regression analysis. The findings indicated that students’ career adapt-abilities did not differ by gender, but showed a significant difference according to grade level. The results of the study revealed that hope and personality traits (conscientiousness, openness to experience, extraversion, and neuroticism) together significantly predict career adapt-abilities. However, hope was determined to be the most important predictor of career adapt-abilities. The findings were discussed in line with the relevant literature, and recommendations were made.
