Abstract
Tourist guides have a very important role in promoting the history, culture, traditions, customs and all other touristic elements of the countries and are cultural ambassadors of the countries. The aim of this study is to compare the tourist guide education systems in Turkey and Europe on the basis of laws, regulations, practices and curricula. For this purpose, data were obtained from virtual environments, databases, written sources and professional chambers regarding the tourist guide education system from 33 countries and 1 region in Europe. From these data, the criteria for the education system were determined and the similarities and differences with the tourist guide education system in Turkey were compared. The obtained data were grouped and similarities were revealed. Although there is EU EN standardization accepted and implemented in many countries in Europe, there is no accepted standard in the education system, practice and outcomes. It has been determined that the laws, regulations and training practices for the tourist guiding profession in Turkey are more comprehensive than the practices of many countries in Europe. There is no standard in FEG member European countries regarding the diversity of courses taught in tourist guide training. In most FEG member European countries, guidance training is provided in courses or schools.
