Özet

Bu makalede Modern Kuveyt edebiyatının önde gelen isimlerinden Leylâ el-Osmân’ın Fethiye Tehtâru Mevtehâ (Fethiye Ölümünü Seçiyor) isimli kısa öyküsüyle ve İrlanda edebiyatının önemli isimlerinden James Joyce’un Eveline adlı öyküsünde yer alan aile içi şiddet sorunu ele alınmaktadır. James Joyce’un ilk ve son öykü koleksiyonu olan Dublinliler adlı eserinde pek çok sosyal sorunun ele alındığı görülmektedir. Örneğin yazarın Eveline isimli öyküsünde babası tarafından fiziksel ve psikolojik şiddete maruz kalan Eveline isimli bir genç kızın yaşadığı sorunlar anlatılmaktadır. Kuveytli Arap kadın yazarlardan biri olan Leylâ el-Osmân’ın öykü koleksiyonuyla aynı adı taşıyan Fethiye Tehtâru Mevtehâ’da Fethiye isimli genç kızın annesi tarafından uygulanan ağır fiziksel şiddet sonucunda yaşamını yitirdiğini görülmektedir. Bu makalede toplumun önemli bir sorunu olan ve her iki öyküde de sıklıkla işlenen aile içi şiddet vakası ele alınmıştır. Eserlerde aile içinde yaşanan gerek fiziksel gerek psikolojik şiddete uğrayan kahramanların yaşadığı mağduriyetler ve bu mağduriyetlerin onların üzerinde bıraktığı etkiler anlatılmaktadır. Bu çalışmada her iki öyküde öne çıkan aile içi şiddet sorununun benzer ve farklı yönleri analiz edilecektir.

Abstract

In this article, the domestic violence problem in the short story Fathiya Tahtâru Mavtahâ by Laila al- Othman (sometimes Laylā al-'Uthmān) one of the leading names in modern Kuwaiti literature, and the story Eveline by James Joyce, one of the important names of Irish literature, are scrutinized. In James Joyce's first and last collection of short stories, Dubliner we see that many social problems are addressed. In the author's story named Eveline, it is stated the problems experienced by a young girl named Eveline, who was exposed to physical and psychological violence by her father. In the work called Fathiya Tahtâru Mavtahâ, which bears the same name as the story collection of Laila al-Othman, we see that a young girl named Fathiya died because of severe physical violence by her mother, one of the Kuwaiti Arab women writers.In this article, we discussed the case of domestic violence, which is an important problem in society and is frequently committed in both stories. In the works, the victimization of the heroes who have been subjected to both physical and psychological violence in the family and the effect of these victimizations on them are explained. In this study, the similar and different aspects of the domestic violence problem, which is prominent in both stories, will be analyzed.
