STRUCTURE AND THEME IN OGUZ ATAY'S TUTUNAMAYANLAR NAMED NOVEL

Abstract

Oğuz Atay's ‘Tutunamayanlar’ named novel which is written with the modernist techniques by the author, focuses on the problem of the existence of the individuals and describes the anxiety of the individuals who tries to make sense of the world they live in, and it also tries to explain the anxiety of the individuals who acquires a place in the world and to rebuild the integrity of their distorted self. In the novel, the disconnected person corresponds to the intellectual who could not adopt to the society, and is alienated and isolated from the society, and the act of being disconnected from life corresponds to the intellectual's self expression of his own existence in the face of life. The novel which has a multi-layered structure, more than one narrative technique, genre and different uses of language. In Tutunamayanlar novel, journies of individuals around the world, inability of the individuals who suffocate from the rigid realities of the external world, the misunderstandings, the alienation of the cultures and the result of this isolation, has been explained. The first part of this study which examines Tutunamayanlar named novel from the structural and the thematic perspective, emphasises the elements that make up structure of the novel. Also the identity of the novel, name and content relation, perspective and narrator's plane, event braid, persons, space and time, was examined with narrative centred point of view. In the study, the elements forming the structure of the novel were examined in detail and it is tried to reveal the basic structures that constitute the text. In the second part of the study which examines the novel from the aspect of the theme, firstly the indicator scheme is created. In the direction of the generated indicator scheme, ideals and counter values were determined by stating especially the conceptual and symbolic plane and the novel was tried to be analysed through the traces of identified themes

Oğuz Atay'ın modernist romana özgü teknikleri kullanarak kaleme aldığı Tutunamayanlar, bireyin varoluş sorununu merkeze alarak, kişilerin yaşadığı dünyayı anlamlandırma kaygısını, dünya üzerinde kendine bir yer edinme endişesini ve bozulan benlik bütünlüğünü yeniden inşa etme çabasını anlatır. Romanda tutunamayan, içinde yaşadığı topluma uyum sağlayamayan, yalnızlaşmış ve yabancılaşmış aydına karşılık kullanılırken; tutunamamak eylemi, bu aydının hayat karşısında kendi varoluşunu ifade etme biçimine karşılık gelir. Çok katmanlı bir yapıya sahip olan roman, birden fazla anlatım tekniği, söyleyiş özelliği ve dilin farklı kullanımlarından meydana gelir. Tutunamayanlar'da, kişinin dünya üzerindeki yolculuğu, dış dünyanın katı gerçeklerinden bunalan bireyin içinde yaşadığı topluma uyum sağlayamaması, yanlış anlaşılması, kültürüne yabancılaşması ve bunun sonucunda yalnızlaşması anlatılır. Tutunamayanlar'ın yapısal ve izleksel açıdan incelendiği bu çalışmanın, birinci bölümünde romanın yapısını oluşturan öğeler üzerinde durulmuştur. Romanın kimliği, isim-içerik ilişkisi, romanda bakış açısı ve anlatıcı düzlemi, olay örgüsü, kişiler, mekân ve zaman, anlatı merkezli bir bakış açısıyla incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, romanın yapısını oluşturan unsurlar ayrıntılı bir biçimde ele alınarak metni oluşturan temel yapılar ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışmanın izleksel açıdan incelendiği ikinci kısımda ise öncelikle kora şeması oluşturulmuştur. Oluşturulan kora şeması doğrultusunda, özellikle kavramsal ve simgesel düzlemde ülkü değerler ve karşı değerler belirlenerek, romanda tespit edilen izlekler aracılığıyla roman açımlanmaya çalışılmıştır
