Validity and Reliability Study for the Unit Achievement Test of Force and Motion

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable achievement test that is about unit of Force and Motion in science course, within the 7th grade level. Within 2005 Science and Technology Education Programme, at the 7th grade, in the unit of Force and Motion there are 31 acquisitions. There have been prepared totally 62 questions to correspond every acquisition. Firstly two measurement and evaluate specialists examined and then a science education specialist examined the achievement test. After that, necessary corrections have been made. A pilot study was carried out to be applied to 25 8th grade pupils, who had seen the unit issues before it was used. The feedbacks were considered which came from pupils and necessary corrections were made. Finally achievement test was prepared. Then it was applied to 270 pupils who were at 8th grade and had seen the issues before its implementation. Its Cronbach alpha reliable coefficient was found 0.804. The item analysis statistics resulted in the item difficulty index of 0.309 and the discrimination index of 0.367. It is a valid and reliable measurement tool, which can be used in scientific investigations by academicians and researchers. Science teachers can apply that achievement test to their students at the end of the unit to determine the students learning level within the unit of Force and Motion.

Bu araştırmanın amacı yedinci sınıf fen bilimleri dersi Kuvvet ve Hareket Ünitesi kapsamında geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. 2005 Fen ve Teknoloji Dersi Öğretim Programında, yedinci sınıf düzeyinde, Kuvvet ve Hareket ünitesinde 31 kazanım bulunmaktadır. Bu kazanımların karşılanması amacıyla her bir kazanım için iki soru olacak şekilde toplam 62 soru hazırlanmıştır. Sonrasında alanında uzman iki ölçme ve değerlendirme uzmanı ve fen bilimleri alanında uzman bir öğretim üyesi soruları incelemiştir. Gelen dönütler sonrasında başarı testine son hali verilmiştir. Başarı testinin, uygulama öncesinde sekizinci sınıfta öğrenim gören ve bu ünitedeki konuları öğrenmiş 25 öğrenciyle pilot uygulaması gerçekleştirilmiştir. Öğrencilerden gelen bildirimler sonrasında başarı testine son şekli verilmiştir. Başarı testi daha önce üniteyi işlemiş olan 270 sekizinci sınıf öğrencisine uygulanmıştır. Kuvvet ve Hareket Ünitesi Başarı Testi (KHÜBT)'nin sonuçları için Cronbach alpha güvenirlik katsayısı 0.804 olarak bulunmuştur. Madde analizi ise ITEMAN madde analizi programı kullanılarak yapılmıştır. Yapılan madde analizi ile testin ortalama madde güçlük ve ayırt edicilik endeksleri sırasıyla 0.309 ve 0.367 olarak hesaplanmıştır. KHÜBT araştırmacıların ve akademisyenlerin bilimsel çalışmalarında kullanabilecekleri geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracıdır. Fen bilimleri öğretmenleri öğrencilerinin Kuvvet ve Hareket ünitesini öğrenme düzeylerini belirlemek için KHÜBT’yi öğrencilerine ünite sonunda uygulayabilirler.
