Effects of Chronic Diseases on Child and Family

Abstract

Prolonged life expectancy and the increase in chronic diseases have brought along the most important causes of disability and death all over the world. The infectious disease burden, which has been concentrated in the child and adolescent group since the last century, has left its place to chronic diseases. Thus, today, the population of children and adults with chronic diseases is increasing, and chronic diseases constitute the most important health problem in the world and in developed countries. Chronic diseases have negative effects because they last for a long time, require a certain treatment and care protocol, and change the living standards of both the child and the family. In this review, the effects of chronic diseases on children and families are mentioned and it is aimed to contribute to the literature.

Özet

Tüm dünyada yaşam süresinin uzamış olması ile kronik hastalıklardaki artış en önemli sakatlık ve ölüm sebeplerini de beraberinde getirmiştir. Geçtiğimiz yüzyıldan bu yana, çocuk ve adölesan grupta yoğunlaşan bulaşıcı hastalık yükü, yerini kronik hastalıklara bırakmış durumdadır. Böylelikle günümüzde kronik hastalığa sahip çocuk ve yetişkin popülasyonu artışta olup kronik hastalıklar, dünyada ve gelişmiş ülkelerde en önemli sağlık sorununu oluşturmaktadır. Kronik hastalıklar uzun sürmesi, belli bir tedavi ve bakım protokolü gerektirmesi, hem çocuğun hem de ailenin yaşam standartlarını değiştirmesi nedeniyle olumsuz etkiler yaratmaktadır. Bu derlemede kronik hastalıkların çocuk ve aile üzerindeki etkilerinden bahsedilmiş, literatüre katkı sağlaması hedeflenmiştir.
