A Critical Approach to the Concept of Berâat al-Istihlâl: The Emergence of the Concept, Its Termization Process and Its Development in the Books of Turkish Eloquence

Abstract

Abstract, The literary arts have not only played an important role in properly understanding the texts of divan literature, but have also been a significant criterion for revealing the originality and artistic prowess of writers and poets. This study delves into the art of “berâatü'l-istihlâl,” primarily used at the commencement of written works such as books, poems, and articles within the realm of divan literature. The first section of this study briefly touches on the historical evolution of the science of eloquence, outlining the development of theological and literary schools. Subsequently, the study focuses on defining, tracing the emergence of, and elucidating the termization process behind the concept of “berāat al-istihlâl”. Moving to the second section, a comparative and critical assessment is conducted regarding its representation in Turkish eloquence literature post-Tanzimat. In conclusion, the distinctions between “berāat al-istihlâl” and other related concepts like “hüsnü'l-ibtidâ” and “berāat al-matla” are expounded upon. This exploration highlights the position and significance of this art within the science of eloquence, shedding light on its influence within Anatolian studies on eloquence, and attempts to identify its traces within eloquence ecoles.

Özet

Edebi sanatlar, divan edebiyatına ait metinlerin hakkıyla anlaşılmasında önemli bir rol üstlendiği gibi, bir yazarın veya şairin özgünlüğünün ve sanat kudretinin ortaya çıkarılmasında da önemli bir ölçüt olmuştur. Bu çalışmada özellikle divan edebiyatına ait kitap, şiir ve makale gibi yazılı ürünlerin başlangıcında kullanılan “berâatü’l-istihlâl” sanatı ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın ilk bölümünde belâgat ilminin tarihi gelişimine, kelâmî ve edebî ekollerinin teşekkülüne kısaca değinildikten sora berâatü’l-istihlâl kavramının tanımı, ortaya çıkışı ve terimleşme süreci üzerine durulmuştur. İkinci bölümünde Tanzimat’tan sonraki Türkçe belâgat kitaplarındaki seyri mukayeseli ve eleştirel bir perspektifte ele alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmanın neticesinde, berâatü’l-istihlâlin “hüsnü’l-ibtidâ” ve “berâatü’l-matla” gibi ilişkili diğer kavramlardan ayrıştığı noktalar açıklanmıştır. Söz konusu ekoller bağlamında bu sanatın belâgat ilmindeki yeri ve önemi ortaya konulmuş ve bu konu özelinden belâgat ekollerinin Anadolu’daki belâgat çalışmalarındaki izleri tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.
