CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF MIGRATION WAVE IN BALKANS: THE CASE OF BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA

Abstract

The phenomenon of migration is one of the most substantial issues of the last years. Political instability, economic problems, wars and armed conflicts are among the greatest causes of migration. Balkans is one of those regions where massive migration waves occur. There are numerous reasons that trigger the massive migration waves, yet economic difficulties have the lead. The migration waves also present a series of effects. Considering the Balkan geography, the rapid decrease in population is observed as the most significant result. Bosnia-Herzegovina comes to the forefront as the country where migration happens in the greatest quantities. In this scope, the aim of this study is to analyse the causes and effects of the migration activity in Bosnia-Herzegovina in particular while examining the Balkan geography in general.

Özet

Göç olgusu son yılların en önemli sorunlarından biridir. Siyasi istikrarsızlık, ekonomik sorunlar, savaş ve silahlı çatışma göç dalgasının en önemli nedenleri arasındadır. Yoğun göç dalgalarının yaşandığı bölgelerden birisi de Balkanlar’dır. Balkan ülkelerinde göç dalgasını tetikleyen pek çok neden vardır; ancak ekonomik sorunlar bunların başında gelmektedir. Göç dalgasının aynı zamanda bir dizi sonucu vardır. Balkan coğrafyası dikkate alındığında göçün en önemli sonucunun nüfusun hızla azalması olduğu gözlenmektedir. Bosna-Hersek ise bu coğrafyada en fazla göç veren ülke olarak ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bu kapsamda bu çalışmanın amacı genel olarak Balkanlar coğrafyasını irdelerken özelde Bosna-Hersek Devleti’nde yaşanan göç hareketliliğinin neden ve sonuçlarını analiz etmektedir.
