Abstract

The place is an important element of the novel, and it achieves comprehensiveness, coherence, and harmony with the rest of the elements. This study is concerned with the aesthetics of the place in the novel (The Forty Rules of Love) by the Turkish writer (Elif Shafak). By studying this important topic, the study can open a window on Turkish literature, embodied by one of the most important Turkish and international pens in the world of the novel. The study attempts to answer a number of questions, including: - How did the novelist deal with the place? - Was the novelist able to employ the element of place in the production of a coherent work of art? - Where are the aesthetics of the place reflected in the novel? The study examined the types of places: the geometric, the figurative, and the valued. As well as researching the aesthetic of the taxonomic description and the expressive description of the place in the novel. It also discussed the dialectic of the relationship between place and personality, and place and language. The study concluded that the place has a prominent role in being the main incentive of the novel. The presence of the place in the narrative text is important; because we are aware of the behaviour of the characters, and their emotional states with the place. The place also has authority over the rest of the narrative components. Its authority over it is due to the fact that they are all subject to its laws and characteristics. The study concluded with important results and recommendations.
